Planning Gear List for Kokoda Trail Treks
Clothing:
1 x walking boots broken
in with good grip soles - lots of climbing and descending!
1 x sandals – adventure style with good grip. For river
crossings and around camp
1 x long cotton pants or equivalent for night time use
1 x light jumper or jacket for night time
3 x cotton tee shirts with collar, 1 to wear walking, 1 for
night time use, and 1 for spare
1 x sarong for the ladies
1 x light rain jacket or poncho
4 x pairs of woolen hiking style socks
4 x pair polypro moisture wicking sock liners
1 x hat or cap
2 x towels (small)
Toiletries
(toothbrush/toothpaste and small cakes of soaps) Small soaps are
best in case you lose one in the fast flowing rivers
1 x small packet of
washing powder just enough for washing your clothes, every 2nd
day. Put in sealable bag
About 50 Kina (PNG money)
for drinks and fruit on track if you require. Small change is
best.
Equipment:
1 x 75 litre (minimum)
backpack, pull of bag is extra.
1 x day pack for personal items
1 x 2 person tent lightweight material or a hootchie for those
more adventurous trekkers
1 x ground sheet
1 x sleeping bag
1 x self inflating mattress or foam roll sleeping pad
3 x drink bottles. Make sure you can get easy access to bottles
or alternatively a back pack bladder for water
1 x torch (flashlight) and batteries plus spares
1 x head torch and batteries plus spares - LED lamps are best
5 metre length of rope for river crossing and/or for use for
clothes line
Comprehensive first aid
kit containing headache tablets, anti diarrheal tablets,
antibiotics, anti malaria tablets, aspirin, glucose or some
electrolyte replacement, lots of band aides, strapping, angle
guard, anti inflammatory medication
Insect repellent
Sunscreen protection
Camera + lots of film,
batteries for camera, more film, backup disposable camera
Plate deep and big enough
for cereal and dinner, drinking mug plus cutlery
Zip style plastic bags for
personal items and clothes
Garbage bags to help keep
clothes dry |
